About Me

My name is Amy. I am a mother to two beautiful girls, and married to an incredibly hard working farmer.

Aside from the title ‘Mommy’ I also am known as a Psychiatric Nurse, daughter, sister, niece, and friend.

I have always loved helping people, and SHARING neat things, or something I had learned. Naturally I decided to give blogging a try, as a way to be able to share as much as I wanted to with anyone who wanted to hear.

My story

big event #1

Completed Psychiatric Nursing education

Worked for a bit, then discovered we were going to be parents! I was put on bed rest early and therefore had LOTS of time to research all things Baby.

baby #1

Welcomed our 1st Daughter

Welcomed our first beautiful daughter right at the height of Harvest time on our farm. I quickly realized just HOW MUCH I still didn’t know about being a MOM despite all my research.

The idea spark

Began to research blogging

I began to research what actually went on behind the scenes of all the mommy blogs I read when I was on bed rest. It was so intriguing to me, that these ladies had a way to share and HELP other mom’s from their own homes. I also found myself giving my friends a lot of unsolicited advice on baby products, etc as they became pregnant also. I shared ALOT. Maybe too much. But I also LOVED what sharing those things felt like. I felt helpful and inspired.

The Name

“The Briar Patch”

It came to me late one night when I was up nursing Baby Girl #1. Disney movies –> Sleeping Beauty –> Briar Rose –> Briar Patch. I looked it up and discovered it meant “a plant having a thorny stem (like a Rose), typically seen in a large mass or patch. I thought ‘hey, being a mom is beautiful (Like a rose) but also super messy and tangled. The name “The Briar Patch” to me means: A messy tangled beautiful mess

Messy Motherhood

My journey as a mom had been just getting messier and more tangled. We discovered we were expecting again in summer 2018. Before our daughter’s first birthday. I was overjoyed, but a little nervous! One baby was proving hard enough for me. Our second daughter entered our lives 3 weeks early, beautiful and tiny. Life was REALLY busy for a bit with a toddler and teeny baby.

Where I am now

Talking to my Dad one day, resulted in him bringing up blogging, someone he knew who did it, and encouraging me to give it a try. He didn’t know I had actually thought about it LOTS before. He told me he thought I would be great at it, and helped me connect with someone to help me get started. I took his encouragement and ran with it. Bringing me here to this day. The start of “The Briar Patch” inspired by my desire to help other moms make their lives beautiful despite how messy motherhood can be.

I hope that by sharing what I have learned, experienced, and created I can help YOU see the ROSES among the BRIARS

My Logo Explained

If you look closely, you will see I intentionally included Thorns in the stems. Motherhood can sometimes hurt a bit. Sometimes ALOT. But it leads to something beautiful. You can’t have a ROSE without the THORNS
